Condominium in dawn light, Singapore.

Raoul on how to take a good picture:

"truth, emotion, technique, beauty. A good photograph has 2 of these. A
great photograph 3. A photograph you never forget has all 4."

Short, sweet and a killer reminder of what's important in photography. It's easy for me to get hung up on technique and not engage enough with the other elements. I'm still debating whether beauty is a critical element. These days, an idea or concept seems to have displaced the importance of beauty as an ideal in modern art. I'd be interested to hear if anyone has thoughts on this.

High contrast, B&W conversion. Shot this with the camera above my head to try and get the whole of the note below the horizon line.

Sometimes the walk home still surprises me. High contrast B&W conversion with a gradient map.

Stamford Canal Sunset

Stamford Canal, Sunset.

This murky and maladorous canal is hidden away behind Orchard Rd and out of sight. Sometimes though, when the light is right, it does have its moment of glory, reflecting the sunset and the twilight sky.

Lots of interesting sites for Singapore related photography. Here's an update to my links on local photographers and photoblogs:

Update: I've redone this shot following some excellent suggestions from JCYRHS. Here's the first version for comparison. I've also redone the portrait of Grace to bring out the catchlights in her eyes. Getting the catchlights right is important to me in portrait work. You can see the original shot here and compare.
